Farmers may work very few hours during the slack season; are they considered employed?

Yes, regardless of whether it is the busy season or slack season, farmers must be considered employed as long as they regularly engage in farm work. However, if uncompensated household members who do not regularly engage in farm work only help out with farm work during the busy season, they are considered employed only if they help out for at least 15 hours during the survey's reference week, and otherwise are considered to be "employed," " unemployed," or belong to the "non-labor force" depending on whether they are engaging in other work or have searched for work.
