Is trading stocks considered employment?

No. Persons exclusively trading stocks from their home or at a securities office are considered to be part of the non-labor force and are not employed. However, if a stock trader also works during some of his or her time, that person is considered employed. If a stock trader has no work, but also "wishes to work" and "is currently searching for work or has searched for work but is waiting for the results," and "can begin work at any time," that person is considered unemployed.
